My name is Pat Guard and I have been a professional photographer for more than 40 years. I first used a film SLR camera at the age of 6 (it was a Leica with a Zeiss lens) and have been fascinated by them ever since! I did my Master's work in Photography at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX.
I have photographed everyone from small passport photos to weddings in Europe. I have photographed everything from food to skyscrapers for companies as big as Coca Cola and Club Corporation of America. I love everything to do with photography and hope this comes across in the course.
Learn to Shoot Like a Pro - What will I learn?
These two 3-Hour courses are designed to help you understand the power locked into your DSLR. I will help you discover what all the features and functions actually do and when it is best to use them. After all, camera manufacturers have spent decades getting these features spot on...why waste all that effort by staying in Auto Mode?
If you think photography is fun now, wait until you really understand your camera at the end of this course for beginners. You will see the world entirely differently and get so much more from your photography...guaranteed!
You will learn...
Exposure Triangle - Learn the correlation between ISO, shutter speed and aperture
Camera modes - Auto, aperture priority, shutter priority, manual, sports, landscape, close up, portrait
Everyday shooting - What to look for and how to shoot it
Composition - Don't just stand there! Learn how to "see" a photo just about anywhere!
Lenses - You have the ability to add just about any lens to your new camera, you now need to understand what you need and why
Lighting - Probably the single most important aspect of any art form
Flash photography - Understand how the light works and how you can control it
Photoshop - Learn basic retouching and editing with this incredible Adobe software
Cleaning and maintenance - With DSLR's comes dust. Learn how it battle it.
By the end of the day you should feel confident enough to switch off of Auto and really start to get the most out of your camera. At the end of this course, you will want to have your camera with you 24/7.
Learn to Shoot Like a Pro - Where is the course held?
The Courses are held at our beautiful studio in Kingwood, Texas. Nestled in the pines of North Houston, you will have the opportunity to shoot in an actual studio and outside in various locations.
The cost of each 3-hour class is $75. This includes a 3-hour portion that will teach you the inner workings of your digital DSLR (aperture, shutter speed, ISO, depth of field) - everything to need get you off of AUTOMATIC. A second 3 hour class is also available to help you learn posing, lighting, composition, on camera flash and most importantly Photoshop. One of the most important features of "Shoot Like a Pro" is the FREE return ticket. You can return at any time and retake the class. This is a lot of information. When you actually get out into the field and start shooting, you may have questions. What better way to answer those questions than to step back into class and review the whole process.
